Some of you may have noticed the poster board under the coat rack titled "Student Star Achievement" and wondered just what is it all about?

Student Star Achievement is a program designed for children 14 years and younger. After every class they are told if they get a star to put next to their name or not. This privilege is determined by their behavior and performance in class.

The requirements for achieving a colored star for the class are:

  • Green Star: Performs highest form correctly.
  • Blue Star: Performs belt level kicking/punching & blocking techniques correctly.
  • Red Star: Performs their highest belt self-defense, TKD techniques and required breakaways correctly.
  • Silver Star: Displays an excellent attitude and shows respect to the Instructor and fellow students during class.
  • Yellow Star: Knows study material-- My Pledge, Tenets, Meaning of TKD, True Student, Children's Home Rules, etc. Completes children's "To Do" list in a timely manner.
After a student has achieved a certain number of stars of a particular color, the student will be awarded a matching colored belt tip.
  • Green Tip: Performs Highest Form Correctly.
  • Blue Tip: Performs all their Belt Level Kicking/Punching & Blocking Techniques correctly.
  • Red Tip: Performs their Highest Belt Self-defense TKD Techniques and required Breakaways correctly.
  • Black Tip: Displays an excellent Attitude and shows Respect to the Instructor and fellow students during class. Knows their study material (My Pledge, Tenets, Children’s Home Rules etc., adheres to the School Rules and General Information).
The following are certain criteria needed to be considered for Student of the Month. They include but are not limited to:
  • Excellent attendance
  • Number of stars achieved (cannot get stars unless you attend class)
  • Attitude and respect during class
  • Good behavior in class (no talking in class)
  • Completed Childrens to-do list in a timely manner
  • Leadership in class
  • Good academic grades
  • Number of belt tips earned for performance of TKD techniques, form and self-defense
  • Helping in class - cleanup, mats, etc.
  • "Attitude" is everything

Instructor Tips
Ability to instruct Color Belt Self-defense techniques; one and two step sparring, drills, breakaways, etc.
Ability to instruct Color Belt kicking, punching & blocking techniques
Ability to instruct Color Belt Poomse and Dan level forms
Ability to perform class "Lead-in" instructing - such as stretching, kicking/punching techniques. Also have the ability to instruct a full class with Master Instructor.
Ability to instruct a full day of clases without assistance from Master Instructor

Promotional Tips
Performed all required Self-defense techniques, timing drills and breakaways properly.
Performed Dan level TKD kicking, blocking & punching techniques properly.
Completed required written essay; has knowledge of the history of TKD, etc.
Performed Dan level Poomse properly
Displays an excellent attitude and good character; shows respect, leadership and adherence to Rules & General Information
