The anticipation of these rules is principally to ensure the maximum benefit (physically, mentally and spiritually) from the study of Tae Kwon Do. If there is discipline, control and organization during class, everyone participating will ultimately benefit. The following rules have been a part of Tae Kwon Do since its origin.
- All students ( Je Jas) must sign in prior to the start of class (recorded for Promotional Testing purposes and attendance requirements).
- All students (Je Jas) who enter or leave the Do Jang (School) or Master Instructor’s office will acknowledge with a bow (Kyong Yet).
- No student shall enter class late or leave class early without the permission of the Master Instructor or designated Instructor. If a student is late for class, he/she must approach the Master Instructor or the Instructor giving the class and ask permission to enter class.
- Students are asked to contact the Master Instructor regarding continued absenteeism from class. This will help prevent student from losing attendance qualifications for promotion or dismissal from school.
- All students ( Je Jas) must bow to the Flags and Master Instructor when entering and leaving the school. This is a sign of respect and common courtesy.
- Students should arrive at least (10) ten minutes before their scheduled class time in order to warm-up, stretch out, meditate and be ready to start class at the scheduled start time.
- Talk on the floor is only allowed when asking the Master Instructor or the designated Instructor, a question. There will be no laughing or joking. However, showing support and encouragement for your fellow student is acceptable.
- No student will approach the Master Instructor during class with a question. Instead the student should ask the Senior Black Belt holder.
- No jewelry or chewing gum will be allowed in class.
- Personal hygiene is your responsibility (clean body, trimmed nails, etc.).
- All students must wear a complete uniform (pants, top and proper belt). Uniform must be cleaned and pressed. If your uniform (belt) becomes undone during class, you must turn away from the class and secure it correctly. Out of respect, never tie your belt while facing the Master Instructor.
- There will be no profanity allowed in the training hall.
- All Instructors and Black Belt holders will be addressed as Mr./Mrs./ Ms. (Last Name) or Yu Dan Ja Nim. This gesture shows respect for your school Black Belts who have committed their time, dedication, hard work and loyalty to this Art as well as to this School.
- During class the Master Instructor will be addressed as Kwan Jang Nim or Master Rother.
- All color belt students will show respect between senior and junior ranks by bowing to one another before class.
- All students will conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all times.
- DRUGS OR ALCOHOL ARE PROHIBITED.
- Tae Kwon Do or any other form of self-defense will be used only as a means of self-defense such as protecting yourself, your family and/or the weak.
- Out of respect and loyalty to Mike's Tae Kown Do Academy, fellow students, Instructors, and Master Instructor, students will not participate in the activities of other martial art schools teaching the same arts, without the express permission of school's highest ranking Master Instructor, with final approval from Master Rother.
- Disciplinary action(s) will be taken for violations of the above regulations. Penalties will be varied and at the discretion of the Master Instructor. Penalties could include suspension, probation or termination of training (see actions for dismissal).
